Evelyn Ersanilli interviewed about Global Compact on Migration
RIGHTS P.I. Evelyn Ersanilli was interviewed by two Dutch national newspapers about the Global Compact on Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration due to be signed in Marrakesh next month. She said the importance of the Compact lies in the recognition that international collaboration is the key to dealing with the challenges associated with international migration. She also explained that the Compact is not a legally binding instrument but can become an important reference point in bilateral and multilateral agreements. In response to a common claim in the Dutch public debate, she furthermore explained that the compact does not mean destination countries lose their say over who is allowed to enter their territory and rights of migrants on their territory.
